I would say it's a 1969+ Melkus RS 1000. |

GDR-made Melkus or FRG-made 1970 Thurner(NSU Prinz 1000 TT engine) |

This is in the GDR. "Polizeiruf 110" was originally a GDR series, the "T" sign instead of an oil company brand is typical for GDR, and the car is definitely a Melkus RS 1000 (with a tuned Wartburg 1000 cc 3 cylinder engine centrally mounted). The Thurner had a one-piece rear/side window). |

Was the Thurner related to the Melkus or did it just look similar? |

No ties apart a similar style(gull-wing doors)and body made in fiberglass(different engine and headlights--Thurner had quad faired headlamps);the Thurner was made thru 1970 to 1973 in West-Germany |
