i think you'll find it is more like a cadillac '60 or '61 |

It is DENITELY a 1963 model (100% sure). It is definitely NOT from 1960 nor 1961. http://www.car-nection.com/yann/DBas_drm/63amb.jpg |

Actually it is from 1963 or 1964 but "antp" can show only ONE year so he has elected to show "1963". In the scene where Gump is handed the football & told "Run Forest, Run!" by his teammate, look in the background; you'll see this car on the sideline, for a brief moment. Only the driver's side is shown, from the bumper to about mid door. ONLY the '63-64 cars look like this. Look at the "curves on the 1960 and 1961 cars. The featured ambulance is much more "angular". http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_prf/60SUPHR2.JPG ((1960)) http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_ima/61suprc.jpg ((1961)) |

Superior is the coach builder 100% (high top style) and for model of design in the rear side window starting by and oval for 1964 and by and point of arrow for 1963. |

This looks to be a slightly modified Superior Royale Rescue 50 inch ambulance. |

Sometimes I wonder, why would Cadillac make an ambulance out of a luxury car instead of Chevy having to build an ambulance out of a standard car? -- Last edit: 2011-03-04 16:01:37 |

They sold chassis on which other companies built special bodies. I guess the quality of the chassis was better for such special use. They did not start out from a full luxury sedan for that -- Last edit: 2011-03-04 16:06:45 |

Also engine size, to pull the weight. And I think it was more the size and strength of the chassis rather than the quality. |

Yes, Typically, Cadillacs have the biggest and most powerful big block V8 engines of all GM divisions, Therefore a really good balance of power and torque, Espescially with the 472 and 500 big block V8s, Also, The engines also had enough power with a good size generator and later alternator to power the warning lights, siren (Espescially an electromechanical siren like the Federal Signal Q2B.) Front and rear air conditioners (If so equipped,) Patient care area lighting, And 2 way radio/telephones if so equipped, Also, With the optional Automatic Level Control, The Cadllac chassis remained level and even at all times and generally rode a lot smoother as well. |
