The USA never received the R107 500SL officially. It was only avilable thru the 'grey market'. The US SL models used the 350/450, 380 & 560 V8 engines only. This is a 1988-89 US 560SL which used a smaller centre brake lamp : http://www.minoxdoc.com/images/560SL%20002.jpg |

There were two different types of 3rd brake lights on the 560SL, 1986-1987 had the larger one near the rear of the trunk lid and the 1988-1989 had a smaller one that was mounted closer to the front of the trunk lid.... |
