This is a 2 wheel drive truck. Did Power Wagon ever apply to 2wd?

Yea they did. It wasnt till the 80s Dodge trucks were seperated into the Ram (2x4) and Power Ram (4x4). Power Wagons were Dodges only full size truck line before the Rams introduction.

nickman912, could you please provide a reference source for that as I don't think that all full size Dodge trucks were referred to as Power Wagons before the Ram! "Power Wagon" was applied to select 4x4 models over the years.

"Power Wagon" was for some 4x4 trucks beginning 1946. There are several other misnamed 2wd Dodges as a result!

The Ram line was not introduced until 1981. I know 1980s Dodges like the back of my hand. I own 2, an 85 Ram and a 87 Ramcharger. There is no Dodge Ram before 1981. You are thinking of pre 70s Dodge trucks used in the millitary. They were all 4x4. Ive never seen this movie, but I would really like to know how this is known to be a 2WD or a 4WD.

From PickupTruck.com

"The well known and respected Power Wagon nameplate ceased to be used when the new 1981 Dodge Trucks were introduced. The 1981 4WD pickup carried a "Power Ram" nameplate instead. Some have called the Power Wagon Years the Four-By-Four-By-Forty-Years Era (1940-1980)."

The "Ram" was introduced in 1981. Therefore this cannot be a Dodge Ram.

http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/history/segment14.html The page I got this info from, BTW.

"The first light-duty Power Wagons came out in 1957 with the introduction of the W100 and W200 pickups (beginning in 1957 1/2-ton 2WDs were D100s and 4WDs were W100s)."

The Power Wagon D100, D meaning 2x4, was introduced in 1957. This truck pictured is a light duty truck if its only 2x4.

http://www.dodgeforum.com/models/ram/ First line of the paragraph: It would be over 60 years before the Dodge truck would carry the name which would become known for rugged trucks, but with the release of the 1981 Dodge truck, the Ram was born.

So, in 1974, the Ram nameplate was not on trucks. Power Wagon would be the name on the fender of the truck. You were thinking of the heavy duty 1941-68 model line. They were dropped in 1968 due to the unsafe cab. The civilian, or light duty, models went on to 1980 when, in 81, the Dodge Ram was introduced.

1957 did mark the first light duty Power Wagon W100 & W200. Dodge also made a 2wd Dodge Truck D100, this was not a Power Wagon. Keep researching as you are doing a good job.

The truck pictured above is a 2wheel drive because of the front suspension...which of course is on the back of your hand. I know old Dodge Power Wagons. I can tell an old Dodge truck by the DPCD on the head of the bolts. Never heard anyone refer to a 4x2 Dodge as a Power Wagon! Why would they? Have owned nearly 20 civy & military Dodge 4x4s. The old style cab Power Wagon was actually produced into the late 70' and sold as export only.

The W series were Power Wagons in the "flat fender" style and the traditional cab style. A few years had the traditional cab as "Power Giants". I have never seen a reference to a 4x2 as a Power Wagon. The D series or 4x2 were just Dodge Trucks and not Power Wagons. The is something other than a Power Wagon and Ram, it is a Dodge Truck.

But thanks for taking the time to post.

I was just going to say I just found that info, and was gonna call this a Dodge D100 truck. I just didnt want this refered to as a Ram because I know its not a Ram. I also corrected my description in the other Dodge truck we were discussing.

Getting closer. Look at the dual rear wheels. It's a 1 ton D300.
