This movie is a MUST SEE!!!! One of my favorite car movies. This deserves 4 stars atleast. Trust me. This movie was supposed to be the 3rd Cannonball Run. It was named Speed Zone. John Candy drives Eugene Levy's silver E32 735i. John drives the heck out of this car! He drives it backwards at very high speeds (easily 35mph), goes air-born, get's rear-ended by truck, brakes go out, etc. Truly inredible stunts with this car! If you look closely at the final scenes with the E32 (when he's racing the train) it is not a 735i - it's a 750iL. Look at the wider kidney grille. No surprise they used a 750iL for this stunt. 296hp and 332lb.ft. torque really move this car, more than the 735i's 208hp and 225lb.ft. torque. Sadly, they cheaped out on the real sound of this BMW (and probably a few other cars). Listen carefully to the early scenes with the 735i - I swear it's a Saab 900 Turbo they are using for sound dubbing. Not a bad sound, but hardly the sound of a BMW inline-6. What a shame. Still the movie is awesome and very funny. Great use of this E32 7-series. By the way, this car is labeled incorrectly on this site. The E32 BMW's used for this movie are an `88-`89 735i, and an `88-`89 750iL. -- Last edit: 2006-03-21 22:27:49 |

Correction - the BMW's used in this film are BOTH an E32 735i AND an E32 750iL. Either or is from 1988-1989. |

Can't you add the `88-`89 750iL also? Look at my previous comment. Thanks. |

The 750iL was supposed to be another car, or are these two BMW used as if they were the same in the movie? |

Both the silver 735i and silver 750iL are used as the same car driven by John Candy. I just feel we should give both the 735i AND the 750iL credit. Rent out the movie, you'll love it. Examine the final scenes with the E32, and you'll see what I mean about my previous comments. |

Usually we list only one of the two cars in such case, since they are suppose to be the same. Like for the M5 in Ronin. |

This car is ramped in the air, rammed by a semi truck, and its driver John Candy even evades a group of police cars while driving backward and talking to his co-driver! |

The movie was cheesy for 1989; it could have been made better. The time was spent watching the unnecessary parts a bit longer than expected. But I saw it just for the cars and I say I would only watch the whole thing once and that’s it, unless you’re looking through it for stunts. The cars that interested me was the Lamborghini and the 88-89 E32 735i, 750il. The stunts weren't well executed for the bimmer so it’s not spectacular. I did not see any power slides drifts or any burnout launches on the star cars. I wanted to see the bimmer spin the wheels going sideways but in the 750il. The V12 in that car was exceptional faster than many of the other cars they didn't mention the speed each car was going but the bmw could hit its 155mph limiter effortlessly. The 735i was just too weak to enjoy watching. |

Poor 7 Series, that is absolutely not ordinary use, but its survived the landing. |

Note once the 7-series lands, the hazard lights turn-on. This was the first vehicle BMW had where if the car sensed a crash it would activate the flashers, unlock the doors and illuminate the interior. The E34 5-series later had this feature along with following models. |

Great knowledge Adrian. |

Also note the blue tarp over the "Canada" part of the Teleglobe Canada sign... |

Another interesting note, about sound dubbing of this car. When John Candy is being chased by the trucker, he claims the car is overheating. The warning chime is from a Cadillac. It's unmistakable. |

The mentioned 750iL stand-in for the 735i. |
