Well, it has a role, but for what is visible it is indeed maybe not worth listing (except if it is also seen for interior shots?)

It's puzzle or something.
I'll drop if it's mere background car, but it got 2stars by crossroads...
(if there are another view)

There's no other view, the car pulls up to the driveway and the driver gets out to talk to one of the main charecters.

tough one, I'd be convinced it's the Mazda 323, or even the earlier "GLC" model.

i think so too: /vehicle_54921-Mazda-GLC-1979.html
(this one looks to be the same color)

the gap between the hatch and the left panel would be more visible if it was a chevette:
/vehicle_67525-Chevrolet-Chevette-1978.html

the glc/323 the gap is on the side of the car so you don't see it.
another glc shot: /vehicle_87945-Mazda-GLC-1981.html
(this one's too new since the movie was in '79.)

If it's a GLC it'd have to be a brand new 1977 model (rather than a 1979), as this movie was mainly filmed in 1976.
