The details from the DVLA are not correct, I've seen this several times on imported Biturbos in the UK.

That car is actually a Biturbo Si but is fitted with 2.24v front and rear bumpers. You can tell its an Si by the 4 stud wheels and the NACA ducts on the bonnet which face forward to feed the top mounted intercoolers. The 2.24v has front mounted intercoolers and the NACA ducts face rearwards, they are there to extract hot air rather than feed intercoolers as per the Si. The 2.24v was also equipped with 5 stud wheels and most had electronic suspension which was not available on the Biturbo Si. You can differentiate this car from the earlier carburated Biturbo S by the shape of the instrument binnacle and the door mirrors, rounded binnacle on the Biturbo Si, square on the Biturbo S; 2 aerodynamic mirrors on the Biturbo Si, single square mirror on the Biturbo S.

So if the Biturbo Si was a 1986 intro until 1988 replacement by 222 (according to wiki), what date would you put on this example? Is there an explanation why DVLA think 1993??

this example is probably around 1988, sometimes there are mistakes at the DVLA and sometimes the relevant paperwork cannot be provided resulting in an incorrect age related registration letter being allocated. Sometimes they just allocate an age related letter based on the date of import to the UK. I have seen several other early imported Biturbos registered in the UK on newer plates than the date of manufacture, and have also seen a 222 mistakenly registered as a Biturbo Racing so don't necessarily trust the information provided by the DVLA.

Mongrels often confuse DVLA ... and us.
