300 SE Coupé [W112] |

1968 or later due to these sidemarkers. |

Not later without headrests |

1968 another hint for 300SE, although still beeing available 1970 280 SE 3.5 Coupé [W111] has been more favored in the USA with [W112] still beeing higher-ranking |

No 280 SE 3.5, because it's the older, high grille. I'm even not sure about 1968, because rims and hubcaps look like the old version. |

As far as I understand, this is no 300 SE/C, but a normal 250 SE/C. The side strip is probably some aftermarket one as it doesn't cover the whole side, and also mounted slightly lower than on the 300 SE/C. Hence functioning as protection rather than bling. The grille is the 1961-67 model and thus never used on a V8 model like 280 SE 3.5, let alone any models 1968 onwards. The inside rear view mirror is black and is therefore indicating a 250 SE/C rather than a 220 SE/C, and also the outside rear view mirror suggests a date previous to 1968. Also wheels and hub caps looks like those originally fitted to the 250 SE/C, albeit easy interchangeable. I rather believe this is a 1966-67 Mercedes-Benz 250 SE/C. -- Last edit: 2017-01-04 19:14:15 |

What do you mean with the "C"? There was no SEC or CE in the W111/112-range. S or SE, not more. -- Last edit: 2017-01-04 19:19:09 |

@ingo: When reading Mercedes litterature (spare part lists, work shop manuals, model identification books) from the time, those abbreviations were rather common. One example: Page 11 in Baumuster-Liste (Model List), Ausgabe (Edition) F, August 1972 states that: Verkaufs-Bezeichnung (Sales Designation): 250 SE/C Baumuster (Models): Motor (Engine): 129.981 , Zubehörigige Ersatzteillisten (which can be found at spare part catalogue): M 129 Fahrgestell (Chassis): 111.021 Ausführung (Specification): Coupé B Radstand mm (Wheelbase): 2750 ab August 1965 bis Dezember 1967, Fahrgestell (Chassis): 082992 - 085397 Werk (Plant): Untertürkheim und Sindelfingen -- Last edit: 2017-01-04 20:29:11 |

o.k., when the "C" is used for the facelifts, it's correct. It's not correct, if used for a specific model name. -- Last edit: 2017-01-04 21:16:46 |

But in this case Mercedes used it themselves to make a difference between, let's say 250 SE [W 108] and 250 SE/C [W 111]. Mercedes used much / when adding useful information, like /8 (GER: strich acht) for the [W 114] and [W 115], but also for the 280 S and SE [W 108] and SE/C [W 111] (all models introduced in 1968). There was also a /9 for models introduced in 1969. Please note the typing difference between SEC and SE/C. -- Last edit: 2017-01-04 21:26:54 |

@ingo: Mercedes used small letters when the same engine was used in more than one chassis. One example: March 1956 - August 1959 was called Mercedes-Benz 190 [W 121 I], but June 1959 - August 1961 was called Mercedes-Benz 190 b [W 121 III] and April 1961 - August 1965 was called Mercedes-Benz 190 c [W 110], thus using small letters for simple understanding and not having to use the chassis code. |

Please change to 250 SE [W 111]!! |
◊ 2017-01-08 10:10 |
The 250 SE/C was only made Septemper 1965 until December 1967, that is MY's 1966-67, not 1968+. |
◊ 2017-01-08 10:32 |
That still leaves a few months for a 1968 to be made..... |
◊ 2017-01-09 16:44 |
Yes, but I thought the earliest possible date should be written, not just random. |

So a 250 SE made in late 1967 in anticipation of being sold with sidemarkers in US during 1968?? And as a subtle nuance, if this gets described as a 68 according to model year doctrine, if all 250 SE assembly ended in Dec 67, none were made during the titular model year |
