Isn't so bad, it is possible to rebuild it as the convertible... or something like that. Actually the new shape of roof is also quite interesting.

Isn't the BMW a 2000 Touring? (to make it even worse ;) )

It seems it is one indeed. Well spotted. And what about the old 30's car in the upper left corner ?

I can make a new page for this 30's car, but isn it too background and not especially visible in this mess?

I do not think that it deserves a separate page, but that does not prevent from identifying it here ;)

I'm driving something which is starting to look like his sculpture. :D

BTW. The BMW is rather a sedan - look at the right C pillar.

Well Weasel1984, the C-pillar is exactly the reason why I thought it's a Touring: the pillar seems to be thicker and more to the back of the car. Also the possibility to look through the car and see the background made me think of a Touring that has lost its hatchback-door.

I don't know, for me is more 'vertical' than in the Touring, let's wait for Ralph.

first i think also it is a sedan
but right, it is a Touring (BMW 2000 Touring 1971)

Most of the cars junked are not so old, at much 10 years. I though those cars supposed to be more hardly than todays cars

Actually some of the worse cars (rust and quality control problems) were made in the 1970's.

I remember a lot of cars from the 70's (from all parts of the world) that just crumbled into mounds of rust after a couple or three winters. And I grew up with mild Calfornia coastal winters were snow was scarce and we did't need to salt our roads!

Still don´t say what cars specifically

wrenchhead US

2007-03-10 21:23

There was an almost world-wide quality control failure in the 1970's and some very unreliable cars were produced. To name a few of the worse ones:

1969-1976 Fiat
1970-1976 Volvo
1970-1976 Ford Pinto
1971-1975 Chevy Vega
1969-1970 Subaru
1970-1971 Ford Torino
1970-1972 Mercury Montego
1973-1976 VW Dasher
1973-1975 Honda Civic
1974-1978 Triumph
1975-1980 AMC Pacer
1975-1976 VW Rabbit
1975-1976 Jaguar
1977-1980 Dodge Aspen

Hey, you asked for information and I gave it to you. I can't help it if you find it difficult to deal with. I could provide details of the problems the cars had but considering your reaction I won't bother - a waste of my time.

I have experience with several of the cars mentioned and can tell you that he was correct with them (volvo 164, volvo 1800e, honda civic cvcc, vega and dodge. I don't know personally about the rest of them but have no reason to doubt. Why do you doubt?

Here are some of the cars I (or my family) had the frustration of owning.

1962 Plymouth Sport Fury - Replace engine (361 cube V8) after 45,000 miles.
1964 Plymouth Sport Fury - Early rust out.
1970 850 Coupe and Spider - Very poor quality control, unreliable electrical system, early rust out, poor drivability due to emission controls, underpowered.
1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - Early rust out, poor drivability due to emisson controls.
1974 Ford (Mercury) Capri - Burned oil, poor quality control, complete loss of brake system on freeway, rust.
1975 Chevy Vega Kammback wagon - Early rust out, engine head warping, poor drivability due to smog control, underpowered
1978 VW Rabbit - Early rust out, burned oil, clutch replacement after 30,000 miles.
1978 VW Scirocco - Air conditioning stopped working after 7,500 miles - unable to fix
1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula - Interior trim pieces feel off car after 2,000 miles, exhaust system support brackets broke off after 5,000 miles, air conditoning stopped working after 15,000 miles.
1980 VW Rabbit Convertible - Clutch replacement after 18,000 miles.

While many (if not most) of these cars were great fun, they also spent a good deal of their lives in ths shop due to indifferent workmanship. Some were never cured if their problems and sold at great loss.

There's a Simca 1100 in the scrap pile, some 1970s Simcas had a rusting reputation.

All 1976 Volvos had to be sent back to the factory to be repainted due to warranty problems. I used to have a 1976 242 and got the story told by my granddad who worked at the local Volvo dealer at the time.

Seventies Volvos, like most seventies cars had notorious rust problems.
