PMX 565 = Middlesex issue to War Department, starting in 1939. Mr Newall says no info on how far it went, but he thought it was at least 476. So breaking new ground here.

Millions more in the film:

(probably not a Squadron 992 unit, but another deployed in London - may even be this one - /vehicle_898088-Fordson-Sussex-E917T-1939.html ??

Some of the plates seen - PHX 662 (June 39 onwards, again Middlesex issue to War Department), PMG 683 and 694 (Sept 39 onwards, ditto).

The RAF Museum in Hendon has one (PHX 376):

A very good description here and many more detailed photographs by a member of the Balloon Barrage Reunion Club, associated with its restoration.

Also a clarification of the E917T chassis designation,

E = English Fordson
9 = year of manufacture 1939
(1) = 221 cubic inch engine
7 = 157 inch wheelbase
T = truck

So not only relevant to balloon winches but trucks in general.

Probably primarily military spec. as its doubtful if many civilian trucks were produced after 1939 or how many (if any) were made alongside the WOT series.

Well spotted 'rattle on' there are both 1937 Fordsons [Model 79] and 1938 Fordsons (Barrel Nose) [E817T/917T] in the convoy.

Fordson Model 79 introduced May 1937 and the Barrel Nose in April 1938

Current listing of 1939 registered vehicles left unchanged as E917T; although it is not known currently if any were made in 1938 (as E817T).
