It is coupe. Why we do not use the index C123 for 123 body? Link to "en.wikipedia.org" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W123 |

This has been asked before, and on one of the many coupe entries there was an explanation. I think it has something to do with Mercedes Benz didn't use the "C" in codes until the W124 models were released. There are other questions like this that I can think of (like why are the VW Beetle Karmann convertibles listed as "Typ 1" when they are "Typ 15"? |

Thank you, night cub. This is a very interesting topic. Just in different sources we can find a variety of information. The official website also encountered index C123 for Coupe and S123 for Estate. Link to "www.mercedes-benz.com" -- Last edit: 2016-03-20 01:20:34 |

IIRC someone looked into it and was told by Mercedes that the C and S codes were not used until 1990 though have been applied retrospectively. -- Last edit: 2016-03-20 01:32:14 |

I can push the date back by several years as the 1971-80 Glass's Guide (published late 1980) has C123, although does not mention S123. |

Which suggests the previous info is incorrect... |

Thanks for your efforts, ZLAT. I've opened a thread in Naming Conventions: http://imcdb.opencommunity.be/forum_topic-8285-66066.html (more people will see it there as comments here get buried after a few hours as happened here). |
