This is not a 1951 Mercury. I was going to say it's a 49 or 50 but when I looked at the enlarged picture, the front license plate says "AWSOM50" so I'd say it's a 50 Mercury. |

There were actually 4 '50 Mercs in various stages of damage that were used in the movie. |

1949 Mercury coupe with a roof chop and various other body mods. They used 4 during filming, 2 '49s and 2 1950s. All had big block engines. This is a fairly dull film after the chase finishes. Shame they wrecked the Merc so early in the film, a stupid end to a cool car. |

I remember seeing a short special on Cinemax in the late '90s that showed various cars stored on a Hollywood lot, and one of them was the battered shell to one of the Mercuries used in this film, just sitting more than a decade later. It's certainly possible, if it was still around then, to be fixed up and reused in a movie just a few years later, but I too would like to see proof of that. -- Last edit: 2011-07-01 03:47:03 |

This is not the car from Gone In 60 Seconds. People need to open their eyes. It is the same make and model, hell, maybe even the same year. But, the GI60 car is either kandy purple or blue with flames and a hell of a lot more body mods. Ibelieve it may even have been a convetrible with a Carson top. So get your facts straight before you lay claim please. |
