I used to call them "Gangster Cars," because I thought the automatic rear windows were for mobsters to stick the barrels of Tommy Guns out of. In fact the sliding down centre glass partition of rear wiew window(when down slides into space back the rear seats'backrest)was peculiar on those cars

car nerd ◊ 2007-01-23 19:52	The lack of chrome trim on the lower beltline make me think this may have been a Canadian-only model. I know that all the US makes had Canadian-specific series back then.
stanchfi ◊ 2009-10-26 04:54	car nerd, good eye though the base model Monterey (I own a 64') didn't have any lower trim. Merrill92106 ◊ 2022-05-30 01:38	I think the rear window thing began with the 59 Lincoln Continental hardtop sedan, same with the 60, then stopped when Lincoln changed body styles to the suicide door bodies in 61. Then Mercury started up the Monterey Breezeway 63 to 68 same rear roll down window. I actually remember seeing quite a few around growing up in the 60s so they obviously must have been popular.
