Ironically,the very first RHD British car I can ever recall seeing was one of these,near Shannon Intl. Airport,1972. (Plane was stopping to refuel,we passed over a road on approach,and one of these was passing by. I recall it was Blue. Odd the things one remembers!!!) |

No - this is solid as Cresta Deluxe. Viscount had different grille - finer pattern and black infill. But it did have the same automatic option - was it really only 2-speed? My vague memory is a 3-speed which might have later become a 4-speed. |

A quick look does show the 'Powerglide' automatic transmission as an option in the 1966 brochures in place of either column-change or floor-change manual gearboxes. The GM Powerglide from memory was a two speed unit that depended heavily on the torque-converter to get a barely acceptable performance. Link to "vauxpedianet.uk2sitebuilder.com" I cannot find currently, if it changed at a later date however. Later brochures mention a "super-smooth GM automatic transmission" which may still be the Powerglide box or possibly a different unit. edit: Later 1971 model year PC Viscounts were "fitted with the 3-speed 'Strasbourg' auto then in use by the parent company General Motors." -- Last edit: 2015-11-28 12:32:02 |
