This is actually a 4 door Jeep Cherokee. VERY similar to the Wagoneer but w/ differnt grille and in this case body side striping that says "Cherokee" just above the amber side marker. Hard to tell if the headlight is round or rectangular to help date late '70's or early 80's. |

Can't check dates, but first 1970s imports to UK were LHD, with RHD only starting a couple of years later (maybe 77/78??). |

Indeed you are correct, dsl, that the RHD models arrived in the UK in 1977. At the end of my comment is a link to a youtube clip from the 1970s Thames TV show "Drive In" that profiles some then-new imported 4 x 4 vehicles entering the UK market, with two Cherokee models (two and four door models), a Daihatsu, and a LHD (the General didn't like making concessions such as engineer RHD!) Chevrolet Blazer. This model is definitely a UK market RHD example as Roger Moore exits from the right when he pulls up at the train station. I would say that this example is a 1977 model due to the color....looks to be "Pewter Gray" offered in '77, as 1978 had the lighter "Quicksilver" paint choice, and for 1979, the Cherokee had square headlights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQJ5-KTx52M |

Yes can now confirm UK RHDs were Cherokees from Oct 77 onwards - models were plain 6cyl 4228cc 2 & 4 door, and V8 5900cc as Chief 2 dr, with 4dr plain and S (chrome bumpers, side stripe) so this looks S. Glass's doesn't list earlier LHDs, but they did happen so likely through backdoor/semi-official channels. |
