Anyone know what Watney's was using for their 6-wheel beer barrel lorries? |

Yes, Badger being a 4-tonner I believe, its possible. "... The fleet of petrol-engined and electric lorries now numbers 226 units... The petrol engined machines consist of Beardmore tractors, Commer Raider 30-cwt vehicles ... Leyland Buffalo 6-tonners also Leyland 4-tonners and 2½-tonners, and Thornycroft units, mostly of 2½-ton capacity." The 'wooden barrel' design of tanks was common to the early 1930s Watney vehicles... "Most of the tanks are of copper.. Experiments that are at present being carried out, however, suggest the likelihood of the copper tanks gradually being replaced by stainless-steel units. They are enclosed in wood structures, built to resemble barrels, an idea that shows a keen appreciation of publicity value" Read more at Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" |
