Its an OL = long wheel base , unusual for a tipper , enormous body for 5 tonner , OK for coal but filled with rock would flatten truck ! |

Probably better just to call this O-Type as all wheelbases in together. The other OL listed is a rather odd fire apliance , maybe a QL? -- Last edit: 2014-03-13 11:43:58 |

Yes, O-Type is better as the OL is the most numerous, standard wheelbase thefore leaving the other more specialised types (OS etc.) where necessary. |

Possibly a war-time conversion of a standard drop-sided truck. After May 1944 the Ministry of War Transport allowed the fitting of tipping bodies to long-wheelbase chassis, with restrictions on the load to be carried, as a conversion on an existing lorry. The practice may also have been continued by the new Ministry of Transport after April 1946 due to vehicle shortages. The rear overhang was reduced by cutting the chassis short to permit a slightly shorter tipper body to be fitted. -- Last edit: 2016-08-04 19:38:56 |
