1962 plate, so VdP. @DidierF - this 4-litre body started as Austin Princess, then became just Princess, and finally became Vanden Plas Princess. There are some clues for separating them out sometimes, but it is mainly dark magic .... |

So, dsl, actually, what differs between this one and the hearse is only the year of making (besides details in the body for the hearse, naturally). Nothing in the engine, or the calandre, grille, etc., right? (I'm asking cause I'm absolutely unable to see any difference.) |

Austin had body colour grille surround (which is almost always black), Princess and VdP had full chrome. Austin had flying A grille mascot, others no mascot. There is a difference in the rear wheel spats between early and late (which again may split into Austin and Princess/VdP) and there is another difference in the rear quarterlight windows, but unclear how this applies - it seems that both early (Austin) and late (late VdP) had a single pane window behind the doors, but mid-period (Princess and early VdP???) had a split window with opening quarterlight; however this is an observed difference without dating information. Finally early cars had white sidelights, late cars had orange - again change date unknown (maybe about 1960??), but may not have applied to all markets at the same time. |
