Sunbeam Alpine Series I or II from the hard-top design (59-63) |

We seem to have a general problem with the way we've been recording early Alpines on the database. I agree this should be entered as S1, but S1 has so far been used for the Sunbeam (Talbot) Alpine roadster introduced Apr 53 - I'm using Talbot name for reference though it was not part of the actual name. The first series finned Alpines have become Alpine Sports tourers to avoid duplication. I suggest the S(T) Alpine roadsters are all revised to Alpine Mk1 (though were based on Mk2A S(T) 2.5L, and were facelifted Oct 54 to match Mk3 S(T)2.5l) and the first finned Alpines become S1. Is this agreed? |

That would make sense to me. The Sunbeam (Talbot) Alpines were always Mk and the later Alpines Series. I note other comments about the SI not being the SI because it was just the Alpine but that seems to unnecessarily complicate things! |

Fortunately we now seem happy about retrospectively calling a car S1 or Mk1, even though the title was not used at the time of production - makes a lot of sense. |
