In Hungary rather not... |

Csepel? |

Nope - similar to the Star cabine, which Csepel used, but different front window. This KAZ is IMO possible. If Soviets made some specialist version to work at the airports (and they usually did!), then some single ones could go abroad only for this purpose. But isn't the windshield too vertical also in this case? -- Last edit: 2013-04-28 23:08:50 |

Csepel D-452 - Hungarians used to modify Star and Jelcz cabins in very different kind of ways; they had dozens of grilles, windows, lamps and bumpers versions. Here's one with cabin similar to the one in the picture: http://i.ittvoltam.hu/p/00/03/36/15/9232a.jpg But front window still seems to be more vertical than any cabin I saw derived from Star 200. -- Last edit: 2013-04-29 01:28:52 |

They changed the details, but I really doubt they changed the structure of the imported cabs, especially that they imported them to cut the costs. Here we see, that not only the windshield is different, but also the part below it, which is rounded. The linked scale model is not very accurate (and even as such differs from this "airport lorry"). -- Last edit: 2013-04-29 11:00:04 |

Looks like they did. Source |

Yes, but KAZ wasn't exported outside USSR. Most of other trucks - yes, but KAZ no. Besides - cab on the picture is more squared, than in 608. Is more similar to 608 V, but it has wrong shape of wheel arch and almost vertical windshield with small window between windshield and doors. Also - truck in the picture seems to have longer chassis, than KAZ. http://iva-savickii.narod.ru/Avto/KAZ/KAZ-608V_Kolhida_Bataysk-0001.jpg |

I suggested the older cab style because the paint scheme matches the one in the main picture. Otherwise I would not have thought it was a KAZ at all. |

Of course, they are some similarities (paint scheme, grill, headlights), I don't deny. |

Hm.. seeing kegare's picture I'm nearly sure now it's KAZ. Paint scheme, fender shape, bumper placing, three slots of different lenght between reflectors... cabin might not be square at all, the longer I look at the picture the more I reckon some weird mirror setup which changes the look of the windshield... |

They could export even only two, and I doubt it would be mentioned anywhere in sources available for us. Or the factory, which did the lifted box (if it was external one) and assembled it to the frame, was considered as the final manufacturer of the whole vehicle and this way export was also not mentioned in any KAZ statistics. The type of the cabine paint scheme can't be incidental IMHO. -- Last edit: 2013-04-30 18:49:41 |

I think the mystery has been solved: 1971 KAZ 608 AL-3. |
