It still paralyses me how passenger-side mirrors still weren't required back then -- Last edit: 2013-02-15 23:03:19 |

I guess back in the 80s, having a passenger mirror was still considered a luxury. I wonder when they started requiring dual side mirrors on all cars? |

This is California, where still for a passenger car 'not less than two such mirrors, including one affixed to the left-hand side' are required (i.e internal mirror and driver's side mirror, unless view is blocked) http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc26709.htm Other states only require a mirror - that's it. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f176/list-state-mirror-laws-565361/ |

I think that in Belgium the passenger mirror is required only if there isn't an interior mirror (or if it is not useable, e.g. in a panel van) |

It depends on the national laws back then. In Germany it was an extra option far into the 80ies, while in Sweden it was required since the 60ies (does anyone knows the year?) Until it became mandatory in Germany (year?) a right mirror was required, when you couldn't use the inner mirror (due the vehicle's construction or due the load) and when the vehicle had a trailer-coupling. |
