Replica (or at least shares some of the extreme aero mods) of a Daytona. Notice that it lacks the flush-fitting rear window.

From what I saw in the video clip that is about the production of the film (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD24_5Vm-zs), they actually DID blow up that bridge. Man, this new film is going to be epic. :)

They didn't blow up the bridge. :) If you look closer, you'll notice that they put explosives behind a false wall, which breaks up and falls down on to the road. There are even obvious gaps between the real crash barriers and the section of barrier that falls off.

It all looks like a brand new stretch of xxxxxxx (insert Spanish name for motorway) which is finished but not opened. This means they could play about with temporary lookalike bridges, and then put a proper bridge in after filming.

Actually, I already saw that for myself after I posted my last comment. The majority of the bridge was still intact, and the car that was on the bridge didn't fall through. That was how I (and the rest of us all) realized that the explosion was kind of fake. At least, it was made to look like a REAL explosion, instead of having the debris be computer generated. That would've made the explosion AWFUL.

Yes, this kind of old-school trick is always way much better than CGI, especially compared to the common quickly done CGI that we see too often

This car is actually a Dodge Charger Daytona from either 1969 or 1970 but I am pretty sure that it is from 1970 because all the Dodge Charger's that Dom has used in the Fast And Furious series are from 1970 and I really hope that they wont wreck it in the movie

it's a 1969 or 1970 Charger (Maybe 1970 because it's Dom's Charger)
It's obvious in it's taillights, coke bottle style design.

Is it hard to confuse Charger with almost full-length taillights and recessed rear window (not present an actual Daytona, but that's a different matter) with Roadrunner normal-sized taillights and flush rear window of different shape?

The taillights are custom but you can tell it's a charger by the lip on the end of the trunk lid and rear quarter panels.

At the end of a trailer video of this movie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_puVuHoR6o), one of the BIGGEST spoilers of the film occurred: The Dodge Charger got wrecked. Again. Can't they make the Charger survive a whole "Fast & Furious" film in mint condition for once? No wrecks, or anything?

They destroyed it, so they can make it come back in Fast 7, with different look and color... maybe.

Not original Charger by the plot too. In movie, they buy or get this red Charger, white Mustang and blue Ford Escort in UK or Europe for sure, they (main characters) are not import them from USA.

Dom gave a toy 1970 Charger(1/18 scale of this charger in F&F 1) to his nephew Jack, to avoid him in favoring Imports.

Moparguy1973 US

Cudak888 is correct. The car is a 1969 or 1970 Dodge Charger that has been modified with a flush rear window (like a Charger Daytona), a shortened Plymouth Superbird-style nose with fixed headlights, and a slightly shortened Superbird spoiler. I'm pretty sure it is a Superbird wing by looking at the angle of the wing. The Charger Daytona wing is relatively narrow, sits rather upright, and is close to the rear edge of the quarter panel, while the Superbird wing has a wider base and sits at more of a rearward angle, a little further forward than a Daytona wing. Contrary to popular belief, the Charger Daytona and Roadrunner Superbird do not share any aero parts except for the flip up headlamp doors...the nose cones, fender scoops, window plugs, and wings are different. The nose on Dom's car is a custom piece... The grille is on the bottom, like a Superbird. It also has a ridge down the center, again, like a Superbird. The Charger Daytona has no center ridge. The Charger Daytona grille is a narrow slit directly in the center of the nose, whereas the Superbird grille (like the one on this car) sits on the bottom side of the nose cone below the pointed part and between the parking lamps. As a longtime Mopar guy, it bugged me a little that this car, along with a lot of the cars in this movie, were powered by a GM/Chevy LS motors...but I'm also a Chevy fan, so I can't blame them, the LS engines are easily swapped, easy to acquire (including replacement parts), they're well built, and make a ton of power!

This car is like all the cars that were provided to James Bond in the "007" film series; they always get wrecked. Universal Studios, can you please make the Charger survive a whole film in mint condition for once?

I agree wholeheartedly. Too many muscle cars are wrecked in these movies probably because Justin Lin loves imports (probably because he's from Taiwan)
Also, this car has aftermarket headlights because the stock variant has pop-ups

cudak888 US

2013-10-15 17:58

Say what you want about the film or the unnecessary tuner modifications, but mounting the shallower-rake Superbird wing on the Charger - cut down to match the roof height, no less - was pure styling genius.

Granted, the trunk probably doesn't clear the wing anymore (the reason for the wing's height and position in the first place), but as Chrysler wing cars go, this subtle swap does wonders for the proportions.

Max_S DE

On the Blue-Ray, Lin says that the car started out as a 7000$ ready-to-scrap-shell, which they equipped with custom front and rear end in the Daytona-Style, a Daytona-Style rear wing they shortened about a feet in height, and a one-off magpul sidepipe-exhaust.
They all featured a rollcage that also carried the long front end (for stiffness, I guess), a necessary feature as Vin Diesel did a lot of driving himself.
The whole drivetrain (engine, clutch, gearbox) is from modern day Chevys, and got modified do deliver the needed performance.

Not only taillights and rear window. Daytona has a punch on the doors (as basic Charger), Superbird - fake air intakes on the rear fenders (as 1970 Roadrunner).

Many people say that this Charger Daytona (This specific one, not the Charger Daytona in general) isn't very pretty, but they forgot about the off-road charger in the next film, which was horrifyingly ugly. For me, this one looks ugly, but still looks nice for some reason.
