Not unfamiliar in the DDR, there where some western cars which where imported to the DDR in the late seventies, earlie eighties. Among those where VW Golf, Mazda 323, Volvo 242 and Citroën GSA Pallas. They where imported to make the looks of the street scenery of East Berlin more international. Most where sold to party members... |

Ah, le doux bruit du démarrage d'une Wartburg, le soir au coin d'un bois... (et le nuage discret de fumée bleue du mélange largement dosé...) -- Last edit: 2006-06-21 22:30:38 |

In this TV-Movie, the owners by the western cars (Mazda+VW) are the bad boys. |

Because they're in thrall to decadent western materialism, no doubt. The only problem was that anyone watching would think that any western cars they saw on the road were driven by criminals rather than by fine, upstanding party members... -- Last edit: 2006-07-11 02:08:07 |

In Australia, the 1981 Mazda 323 did not have the small indicator lights on the side of the front mudguard (as seen in the picture above). |
