Such a wicked car. I thought though that couldn't it be the rare SS Monte Carlo? Those cars never actually had SS badges on them, but had the big 454cid engines. Maybe that's why the Viper couldn't beat it.

Why you'd want that instead of something in a bit better condition (ie. one with a proper, matching paint job :P) I don't know...

The engine on this car was a nitrous injected 509, not a 632. Hot Rod Magazine reviewed this car. (Ands unfortunately blew the 509 sky high in the testing. It now houses a 454, but still has the hot rodded transmission.

This following information was taken from the Volo Auto Museum where the car now resides.

"FOR THE MOVIE IT HAD A NITROuS INJECTED 509 CUBIC INCH ENGINE BACKED BY A LAKEWOOD BELLHOUSING, HAYES CLUTCH, AND A RICHMOND T-10 FOUR-SPEED TRANS THAT FED THROUGH A WENCO DRIVESHAFT TO A MOSER 12-BOLT REAREND WITH SPOOLS AND 4.88 GEARS."

If you pause it at 2:10 you can clearly see the valve covers say HARDCORE 632. You can also see that it does have 3 bolts on the top.

This is a direct quote from edmunds inside line,

"The valve covers are a fraud, but there are 509 cubic inches of Bill Mitchell crate motor underneath them, rated at 560 hp. The inner fenders were omitted to accommodate the wide Goodyear stock-car slicks."

Here is the link if you want to read it yourself.

Man, I love this car... I was a little skeptical of Tokyo Drift when it came out, thinking it looked like there would be no muscle being a movie set in Tokyo, but then at the beginning when I saw this car then the "Hardcore 632" valve covers, I was just sucked in. Obviously if it were a real Hardcore 632 it would have smoked the Viper in a heartbeat, regardless of the 4 speed tranny. Honestly, I think a prelude to this movie would be really cool, showing us some of his races in the past and how the heck he came to get a 632 cubic inch Bill Mitchell crate engine on a highschooler's budget.

The guy said his viper goes 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds. It actually goes in 4.0 secs, so he dissed his own car, and obviously doesn't have any knowledge of whats going on under his or seans hood. and either way, the monte carlo is faster :D
