Bigger windows and still old hubcaps: 1965 only. With all this chrome it must be a 1300, not a 1200. |

1965 model only 1200. 1300 from 1966 model. I think. |

But it has the old wheels and no badge on the engine-lid. |

Sorry 5503, my mistake. 1300 started indeed for model year 1966. Only problem: is it called 1200 or Export (in Germany). For 1965 the Standard was renamed in 100 A, but I think the Export still had it's Export name, at least according to Ulrich von Pidoll's book "VW Käfer - Ein Auto schreibt Geschichte". But I guess 1200 is correct, as it is also called like that in Link to "www.thesamba.com" |

The article is from issue 11/65 - maybe November? If yes, the car would be from the previous model-year, as for MY 1966 the new wheels came. But it's not too uncommon, that the magazine-makers hadn't the very brand new model for their tests. Otherwise: not all facelifts and other changes for the following model-year happend in the summer-vacations, when (at VW) the production of the new model was installed. Several was changed during the running production, too. |

I see 1958-1964 smaller side windows. And 1964+ rear plate light. |

Not the best viewing angle but the vent window is not vertical. The posts (look at the space between door window and side window) seems too narrow for a 1964. |

Compare to this one. |
