Isn't it Jelcz? Look at the front lights. |

That's rather a myth with these lights. In fact you can find on Google a lot of Skodas with these lights. Theoretically it maybe can be a Jelcz -they were exported to CS, but still less probable there than Skoda. |

It's not a myth at all, Skoda never developed this type of lights. If there was any mashing up, it went opposite way - Jelcz's first series had Skoda's reflectors. To be specific, this isn't the only way to tell them apart. Look at the front grille and the indicators. Skodas had bigger front grille, little wider and much higher. Jelczes had lower positioned indicators - because of space needed for destination plate. Skodas had this space defaultly planned at the right side of bumper. People uploading images usually don't know or don't pay attention to details, so they mix names of the pictures up. |

Can be, there were always doubts about it: /vehicle_124658-Skoda-706-RTO-LUX.html The first Jelczes were identical with Skodas, that's true, maybe later also both had the same changes? Anyway more probable is - Jelcz always (usually) had this small Skoda badge - hence it is possible, that Jelczes exported to CS were maybe called there Skoda (made by Jelcz). According to my calculations Jelcz had "flat" headlights to ca 1966/67. The Lux introduced in 1964 still had flat ones, the serial 021 had already the new ones. Did Karosa still made RTO bodies after the introduction of S-11 buses? Not for long time I belive... Then it can fits - Jelcz changed the lamps when Karosa finished its production of RTO. And you are right, on the pic it has to be a Jelcz. 041 designed mainly for the Czechoslovakia. In this case Jelcz also by the double doors. http://historiajzs.bloog.pl/kat,465648,index.html?ticaid=69cd8 There is also this one: /vehicle_136626-Skoda-706-RTO-KAR.html -- Last edit: 2010-03-13 23:13:00 |

I see it's all messed up more than I thought before, especially if Jelcz is the one we talk about. I found so many combinations of front lights, grilles and indicator positionigs that I cannot be sure of anything - it all looks so random. But I can say definetely, that I haven't found any Skoda with those 'slug eyes' and smaller grille - all have found (and I can say that is Skoda for sure) had 'volkswagen lights' and bigger grille (both positions of indicators noted). I found one more thing we can look closer at - window opening. There is sliding type and lifting type, also bigger sliding part of the driver's window and window divided evenly to the passenger windows. It's just like an enigma, and if we found a key perhaps we would afford telling Skoda and Jelcz apart once and for all |

It seems either I was wrong judging by all those things I have mentioned, or in this case some modifications have been brought in: http://www.phototrans.eu/14,342233,0,__koda_706_RTO_CAR_8A9_2561.html Those slug-eye lights might be Czech original as chromed bezels don't come from FSO Warszawa (they rather reminds me those from Skoda Octavia). |

-- Last edit: 2014-01-06 23:26:22 |
