1959?! It is typo or car in not original condition? Lack of T at the boot lid makes it 1971. |

Oh, if you find 603-1 with original body you shall be lucky one! It was very common the changing 603-1 bodies to 603-2 after few years of corrosion atacks or accident. It became part of normal offer on Tatra factory in Pribor. |

Then we need someone who listed this. Plate I guess says not much. |

Well, the HPI Check says: Vehicle Details for registration number USY424 Make TATRA Model none Year of Manufacture 1959 Engine Size (cc) 2500 |

However we should leave 1971 603-2 or type 1959 603 (with 1971 T603-2 body). |

Then I would vote for the second version. |

To be perfectly precise: 1959 603 (with 1971+ T603-2 body) -- Last edit: 2011-02-04 18:21:23 |

I'd guess the older date of build was just a trick to make import to the UK possible... |

.... or to make it eligible for free road tax, a scheme which applied to cars over 25 years old on a rolling basis. So if the car was imported in mid 1990s or earlier a 1959 date would qualify, but not 1971. The free road tax scheme now applies to any car built before Jan 1973 with no annual updating of the threshold year. |

I would do the opposite, as it could be a 1971 with fake registration, no? As the comments above mine suggest. And even if it is a 1959 with 1971 body I'd list it as 1971 [...] on 1959 chassis -- Last edit: 2011-02-05 17:09:39 |

Fake registration is less probable than body's rechange. Most of 1957-1962 Tatra 603s existing today hasn't original body. We talk about 70 % of all. |
