Jetta was popular in Japan?

No, it was very rare. The hyperrarest version was the two-door Jetta II, only two of them were brought to Japan, for a horrible money, because they were private imports by some rich guys, not via the former importer YANASE. My friend Hiroshi http://www.nakazawa-office.com/ told me that. So a two-door Jetta was a kind of a "very exclusive rich man's limousine" there

You're welcome ;) The Beurs was worse as never before (/vehicle.php?id=284094), but the town is worth a visit. But hard, when your wife on diet has to pass all the chocolaterie-shops...

Sorry to hear it was a flop. Rétromobile in Paris http://www.retromobile.fr/ (too late) is probably in a different category than Antwerp...

Naah, it wasn't too bad. I got finally the Swiss catalogue for a good price - and my wife was not too nerved, because I scrabbled for a long time in some boxes. Therefore we had some nice hours with sightseeing in the town.
Yes, the Rètromobile is different. In the past it was organized by http://www.siha.de/ as the Beurs in Antwerpen and the Techno Classica in Essen, too, but even then it was meant and made as show for premium, high prices classic cars. Not really something for the fans of "bread-and-butter-cars" (dsl would say "porridge-cars"). For sure the dealers are making special prices for such events ("special" doesn't mean "bargain"). I've been one time, 12 years ago, while the visit of a local K 70-driver, on the Rètromobile and haven't bought anything.

The Techno Classica is meant in the same way, as something exclusive. Though everyone in the classic car-scene thinks "What an idiot!" when someone tells, that he had bought a car on these shows, Essen is still holding a bit the balance, because of the many club-presentations and the fact, that there are more "normal" parts- and literature-dealers.
So even its "high performance"-attitude and the fact, that I'm visiting the TC since 20 years, everytime I could find something interesting. And for sure it's important for "to see and to be seen" in the oldtimer-freak-scene. Connections are the one and only main thing ;)
But for sure I only go there, when I can scrounge an exhibitor's ticket.

And a European plate-frame.
Btw: was there a Japan-spec frame for the Jetta II? Golf II and III had them.
