Despite the Vectra's crap image I think Lewis's previous car ( /vehicle_362623-Vauxhall-Vectra-2008.html ) was a more stylish one.

Thanks for accepting me to this site. Lewis drives a number of different examples of the first series of Insignia. I have just discovered that I own one!
I was given it for free earlier this year. It's engine required a full rebuild. I'd sort of abandoned the project as they are practically worthless. But being a sad man, I am now quite excited. So it will see life again. My niece did say everyone thinks it's an unmarked police car :-)
It is still in very good condition, actually mint.

When I had my own business, I restored a sixties Commer Camper. It already had endless new parts on it and when I had finished it, it was mechanically in very close to brand new condition. It was in an episode of 'The Last of the Summer Wine' and had paperwork to suggest that was so. Also, it belonged to the Burnley company which specialised in supplying classic cars to the film industry before it lost all of its stock to a large fire.
Yet I can't find any reference to it.
The road test was to a friend's house 49 miles away.
I took my rescue cross collie dog with me.
The owner only used it once and sold it for pennies to a breaker's yard.
I believe it was bought by someone for £300 in 2001.
Nowadays, it would easily go for £20k.

Finally, when I was a teenager, I recall a very early VW camper van from the 1950s going through the auction. It was a special sale as it was allowed to have a reserve with it being 'unique'.
This sold for £500 in 1979. It was in an old Audrey Hepburn film, I think. Utterly as new throughout, but even then appeared to be from another time. I could not believe that anyone would want such an old bus...
I can only guess at the value today.
Must be far north of £100k :-)

When I said I could not believe that anyone would buy it, I would have snapped the owner's fingers off if I could afford it. A year-old sports moped was about £500 too at this time. I loved that VW.
Ironically, I was made redundant from my apprenticeship a few weeks later. I ended up with £600 in redundancy money. Oh well...
I won't share the time I left a WW1 Gnome Rotary engine from a biplane at the local tip. I chose to carry home a Suzuki 50cc engine instead. I still have the damaged back from lugging it three miles. Bad choice.
Have a great weekend.
