In this case I guess that Biarritz is part of the model name, as it would be the designation of the convertible models (?) In some newer models, maybe it became only a trim level... -- Last edit: 2006-07-16 17:21:38 |

Cadillac first used the name "Eldorado" in 1953 for their top-of-the-line convertible model. In 1956 a coupe was added to the "Eldorado" line; the coupe became known as the "Eldorado Seville" and the convertible as the "Eldorado Biarritz"; these paired names were used in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960 to distinguish clearly between the coupe and convertible models. In 1961, the "Eldorado" coupe was no longer offered, yet in 1961 and 1962 the convertible continued to be named the "Eldorado Biarritz". For 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966, the top-of-the-line Cadillac convertible got the name "Fleetwood Eldorado". In 1967 the "Eldorado" convertible was dropped from the Cadillac line but the "Fleetwood Eldorado" continued in production as a 2-door, front-wheel-drive coupe (1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970). The "Fleetwood Eldorado" convertible returned in 1971 and remained in production up to and including 1976; both the coupe and the convertible were known as the "Fleetwood Eldorado". The "Biarritz" name returned in 1978, this time on a coupe ...and with it Cadillac logic flew out of the window ! |

That's correct, In the newer Eldorados, Biarritz did become a more luxurious trim level. |
