Singer Chamois Sport if UK registered, Sunbeam Chamois Sport if exported to Europe. |

Have looked at this again with better screen settings - unfortunately it has UK plates - V[?]LL 147G, so is 1969my Singer Chamois Sport on its holidays, though no GB plate visible. |

But it's LHD ... so maybe purchased in UK for export and not yet re-registered? Therefore Sunbeam? |

Possible - I wondered about the apparent LHD too, and it gives an explanation for the lack of GB plate (even with the rear slats, the rear window could be used and they were supposedly compulsory for foreign travel). And I wanted it to be a Sunbeam as more interesting. The only problem is that I can find no reference for the VLL or YLL/ULL plate sequences as export (eg Home Delivery Export Scheme used blocks of numbers), and it does not have the alternative black plate design which had a yellow border for export (which existed for a time in the late 60s, but I can't find precise details). Definitely an Oct 68 onwards Chamois Sport with the snout over the number plate, and trim matches the G plate, but Singer or Sunbeam???? |

I guess it might be a Dutch car, disguised with a fake plate as a UK car for the film. In 1969 in Holland the Chamois was sold as Sunbeam (in 1965 as Singer). |

These were essentially Hillman Imps, correct? |

Yes - with upgrades to oily bits and trim. |

..which made them even better and more reliable. |

I think cl82 needs to be taken to the facility for a wee bit of re-education. |

@Sandie: Thanks a bunch. Just when it seemed that dsl had cooled off you started to go haywire. I'm sorry, but no matter what I'm saying during the last couple of days, the Scots always find fault with it. Must you always get into a huff? By the way: Re-education about what? The endless winning streak of the mighty Scottish car industry (ducks for cover)? -- Last edit: 2012-07-20 04:20:37 |
