D541EFL or D541EXL; does the plate change with a change of ownership (like buying your leased car at the end of the lease) in the UK? Or did they use two identical cars? Or a fake plate?

It is just another identical car, or a fake plate, as the plate should not change when the owner changes.

FL was Peterborough, and XL was unused, so D541 EXL is a fake number.

This model 200 was literally a Honda with a Rover badge - except the 216 which had the British S-series engine!

But in the 80s and early 90s it was just basically a common piece of street scenery found in suburbia - perfect for the whole joke abotu Hyacinth being so snobby.

Now theyre really rare.

Both cars are 1987-89 with those bumpers (the size of the black strips on them in particular).

This may be part of the reason that there where two cars; In one take Clive Swift was reversing EXL out of the drive and caught the front bumper and wing on the wall and partially ripped it off and bent/broke/completely wrecked that part of the car, what didn't help is that he kept the car moving rather than stopping, apparently due to his 'Short Legs'. (personally I like the Quattro in the background ;) )
