These are the details we have for your car
N820CBY
Manufacturer:VAUXHALL
Model:ASTRA DIESEL HATCHBACK - 1.7 TD Envoy 3dr [AC]
Year:1997
Colour:Red
Transmission:Manual
Engine Size:1700
First Registered:01/08/1997

Nearby plates 82x are blank. Looks low spec version - maybe Merit. But definitely estate so either 820 mis-entered or it's one of the 82x neighbours.

It's very dodgy, registration date is two years too new to be a genuine 'N' plate.

^ well it was webuyanycar. And I'm not convinced Envoy was available in 95 either. So disregarding the plate info for date.

In Opel orange indicators were replaced by white one with 1995 facelift. I thought it was the same with Vauxhall. The grille could be replaced by the owner.

I've always been curious about that too. In theory, I always thought the same as you but had seen enough facelift cars with amber lights to doubt it.

It may just be that cars were fixed over the years with incorrect lenses but they weren't unusual. There used to be a green 96/97 one near here with the older lenses.

It seems that Envoy trim only came with the Astra G rather than the Astra F here (where base was Merit) so the plate reference seems even more dodgy.

Astra Facelift from August 1994 brochure was available in 'Merit' hatch & estate, 'LS' hatch saloon estate, 'GLS' hatch saloon estate and 'Sport' hatch & estate versions.

This has Merit bumpers (all black below the lower half all others were colour-coded).

The brochure indicated all models had clear lenses, new grille shape and new headlamp shape (from previous model).

I suspect Vauxhall down-spec'd the Merit to amber lenses at some point - the examples in Sandie's link are true facelift versions (door mirror shape changed to 'Calibra style' not an easy change like the grille). Vauxhall could potentially respec cars independently of Opel if standard parts were used.

Glass's states all Astras got white indicators Aug 94, which matches everyone else's comments, and then makes no further reference to their colour for the remainder of this gen production for any version.

While we're debating 95+ Astra minutiae, I'm still thinking there may have been a change in side indicator size sometime around then or just afterwards - as this one may show. Or may not.

Odd thought which came to me just now while peeling my tatties (no euphemism intended - I was peeling tatties):
- did the Opel get white indicators at same time?? If not, could 95+ orange indicators mean a Vauxhall made in D or B???

Opel was facelifted (received white front indicatros) in the same time - summer-August 1994.
Intersting that more such "later" Vauxhalls are to find with orange ones.
