Ingo ◊ 2013-01-17 13:31	Yes, here it's only a trim-line -but a very rare one. If you want to put all 1973-Typ1 together, you have to be careful, as besides the Super Beetle (1303) the Sedan (1300) was also on the US-market.

What should be observed is that you (we) risk losing valuable info if special editions are merged with regular versions. This yellow one you refer to is (by now, at least) no special edition. So yes, I think it should be listed at it's own - together with later finds. Even if it will increase the number of entries. Let's see what the comments will give. -- Last edit: 2013-01-17 23:00:32

dsl ◊ 2013-01-17 23:15	As a non-Beeetle-ist looking on from outside the debate, my comment would be that the Baja deserves its own page as an unusual and interesting special version and that for easier searching and retrieval it should have Baja in the title (not just Added Info), even if it is only a dealer-applied stickers-and-accessories job. Its rarity and story justify such an unusual emphasis. The Sports Bug probably deserve its own page too, for similar reasons. imcdb is increasingly capable of being used as a reference tool for pictures and knowledge/info (via the comments) so let's make the routes in as clearly signposted as possible for folk who may not know how to use the subtleties of the search page.

But this is not just a Beetle-issue, it goes for all other special editions as well- take the Ford F-150s, the Camaros or Mercedes - some already have their Special Editions listed. It would make a search for a specific model easier - but also increase the number of vehicles on the site. For this one, it could be listed as Volkswagen Baja Beetle Super Beetle, while the Sport could be listed under Volkswagen Sport Beetle Super Beetle or the Super Beetle could very well be omitted. We are very varied in how we treat these separations, but that may be inevitable. Something I've found useful when sorting through big batches of unseparated models is that by splitting them up into edition/version batches and then having a nice little group to compare, you get a much better feel for what the edition actually is, whether it evolved during its lifetime, and whether there were sub-variants. As a result my knowledge of - for instance Minis - has developed, and therefore the content of the database improved as some IDs could be corrected/tightened/refined. I'd guess many of those folk who've done the F150s or Camaros - or Mustangs or Range Rovers or whatever else - would have found something similar. Keeping things hidden breeds inconsistency - having them out in the open is far easier to co-ordinate. The variation in treatment may just be a reflection that we have experts for some cars but not others, and that the expert(s) can take a value judgement that a version is significant/interesting/rare enough for emphasis (and perhaps that others are not - for instance our Cortinas are balanced between significant versions with their own groups and lesser ones in extra info).
