This is a must see for any European car enthusiast. "The Hitchiker" is the story/chapter this `84-`85 Mercedes-Benz 380SE is used in. I say 5-stars (maybe). The car may not be the story, but it is in virtually every scene, except for the into (first 3 min.) The main character drives this car extremely hard, and through conditions you wouldn't drive a Mercedes. First she hits the hitchiker (premise of the story), spins around while braking, burns-out sideways, and takes the car through the woods trying to get the guy off her roof. The phrase "thanks for the ride lady" will be in your head for days. You'll notice in one scene (after first hitting the guy), one of the headlight units is a Euro-unit. This car goes through absolute hell. Although it's still driveable after being severley smashed. Without a doubt, my all time favorite car scene in a horror film. The car is one of the main elements in the story. Excellent shots of interior and exterior. I highly recommend seeing it.

Neptune, the lady doesn't die from her driving, although she is injured.

Awesome photos Modell. We used to have this exact Mercedes. It was an `85 380 SE with only 35K mi. in `97. The build-quality, attention to detail are extrordinary. Power was not sporty for such a heavy car. The radio and climate control were somewhat finicky compared to more typical cars. Seeing this episode always brings back memories.

Note the Euro wheel-covers in the 1st photo. Stock US Mercedes S-Class of this era never came with wheel-covers.

Hi there guys, I'm new to the site but as a car fanatic it's great to be here!

I just wanted to point out a little observation I made last night while watching Creepshow 2.
If you guys notice closely, the seats in the mercedes used at the beginning and through most of the interior shots has leather seats, grey leather, and when she slams the car into the tree crushing the hitchiker, knocks herself out and wakes up, all of a sudden the seats are grey velour with a horizontal pattern, you can clearly see this right when she wakes up from the crash and as she is entering her garage at the end.
The reason for this might be that they used a top of the line 380SE for the beauty shots, but when it came to abusing the car ( I almost cried, the Mercedes W126 is one of my favourites) the chose to go with a much cheaper model, velour seats on a mercedes denotes base model.

Thanks everyone.

Cuban.

Yes, the one slightly wrecked was a basical Euro '84 380 SE, with no leather and no alloy wheels. By the way finally pictures of this car...thanks for all those shots!

Cuban, it's funny you picked up on that too. I've thought I noticed that too on my old VHS copy from aerial tv. Now I have it on DVD, it's like taking off a filthy screen from a window, being able to see everything clearly - so nice now. You are correct, it is leather in the beginning, then velour in the latter scenes. Refer to my other comments on this vehicles details.

Note: the 380SE was NOT the top-of-the-line model in the US in `84-`85 - the 500SEL was. `82-`83 was the 380SEL, and `86-`90 was the 560SEL.

I'm not sure where this movie was shot, but it's possible that the stunt car was a private import that couldn't pass local emissions testing...hence, able to be bought cheaply as it could not be registered.

The first thumbnail shows that the front bumper is for a European model (look at the recessed area for the number plate.)

The film was shot in the US, so Skid is probably right that the car was a grey import that couldn't be registered.

I can understand wheelcovers being offered on an 300E or 190E but they are way too low class on a S-Class. I guess Americans wouldn't accept them, and that's why M-B didn't offer them here. Europeans have different tastes, perhaps.

$4,000 Mrs. Lansing and the car would look like you just drove it out of the showroom.

There were actually four vehicles used in the \"Hitchhiker\" segment of Creepshow 2. Three were indeed European imports, and one was privately owned by a dentist who lived near the area (Bangor, Main) where they were filming.

 I got the strong impression, that the crashed car is faked. Have closer look to the 7th thumbnail: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/354/cs913ou9.jpg/ The grille is not from a W126. It's higher, with this size probably from a W 108.

The grille looks higher because it's smashed flat :) All the cars shown were euro trim... no DOT conversion had been attempted.

They must have removed the radiator fan on the crash car... I'd imagine it would have hit the radiator after it was pushed back, there isn't much clearance there on the 6 cylinder cars.

Would've been a nice little twist if after she woke up the car wouldn't start, she tried to hitchhike and got hit by a car.

Interesting comments, since my 1st one, back in 2006. Wow, 2006. "cinewheels" how do you know they used 4 Mercedes in this film? I watched the behind the scenes film on this movie on youtube but there is no mention of the car at strangely. Wish there was more info., photos and extra footage.
