The Badges on the back were in gold letters, so it is a 912, 911 had them in silver, but the car is optical styled like a 911 (rims, lower suspention...)

Well, it's just the other way about. :D
Porsche 911s had golden letters, 912s silver.

 Hmm, 912: silver; 911: gold, this way, right. But the Posche in the movie had gold letters, 911 styled car...

Made for US (or CDN - both locations listed on imdb) as full orange minor lights without white portion.

@dsl: For what it's worth I'm pretty sure all the scenes with this car were shot in the UK. The exterior of the CIA headquarters was a GlaxoSmithKline laboratory in Stevenage, and the close-ups of Robert Redford driving through Washington are actually Regents Park in London. :)

The second unit shots of Washington D.C. and Virginia would probably have been done with a different car obtained locally.

The 912 was made from 1965-1969. (Not to be confused with the 1976 912E which had a motor similar to the Volkswagen Transporter or Bus)

They are typically identical to the 911 aside from the motor and badge on rear decklid and dash.

911 obviously had the flat 6 motor and the 912 had the flat 4 derived from the Porsche 356C.

Regarding the rear decklid badging, both the 911 AND 912 had either gold OR silver as it was a factory option.

Useful info. I've seen frequent references to the 911 = gold, 912 = silver statement, but was unconvinced it worked reliably in practice against all our mid-late 1960s entries.

However 1966-68 Porsche sold significantly higher numbers of 912 than 911 each year, whether counted as total production or sales in US, so 912 is a better assumption when no other clues are present. 1969 saw 912 production substantially reduced as 911 increased with 911 T easily the biggest seller and in effect becoming the 912 replacement.
