UW4887 seems to have belonged to the 4½ Litre [KL3590] /vehicle.php?id=42535 , http://www.vintagebentleys.org/carpages/uw4887.php and reused here.

How can the same registration (UW 4887) be on two different Bentleys?

The options appear to be...

1. Hired from the same company and running on tradeplates?

2. The number plate was simply taken off one vehicle and placed on another? Although I'm sure ABC Telelvision would not have anything to do with any fraudulent activities.

3. One vehicle was taken off the road and the second Bentley was reregistered?

4. Could the first Bentley have undergone restoration and in the process had another body fitted?

The number plate was simply taken off one vehicle and placed on another?: One vehicle broken down, and just replaced by .... "Nobody will spot the diffrerence, guv..'?

Absolutely, the casual viewer is not very observant and with a few subtle modifications they are completely fooled. How about a BMW 5-Series or a Ford Mustang?

Hi Rob and Sandie

Thanks for the interest.

I have been told that although these vintage Bentleys now command huge prices, in the sixties they were the type of car that people bought if they could not afford a current sports car like an E-Type. Spare parts were a problem to obtain and so perhaps some were broken up to supply spares to keep others running?

The website vintagebentleys.org list the number UW 4887 belonging to the 4.5 litre Bentley, as pointed out above, but no information on it since the sixties. Maybe that vehicle was scrapped or broken for spares and the registration number transferred to the 3 litre.

As you say the average TV viewer of the time would not usually notice the number plates being the same.

According to CBS New Sunday Morning, James Bond also drove a vintage Bentley in the original Ian Fleming novels rather than the Aston Martins he is now associated with.
