My father had a car like this once. 1 of 9 in traffic in Sweden... It was a wonderful car to drive. :D 0-100 km/h in 6,2 sec, and top-speed at 260 km/h...

Is that damage on the rear bumper in the main pic?

No, they're speed holes, they make the car go faster.

Not very desirable to have holes in your car, makes it look like shoddy workmanship

It's a Simpsons joke, from "Homer the Clown"

Extract from the script courtesy of www.snpp.com :

Fat Tony and his henchmen go cruising for Krusty.

Tony: OK, wherever Krusty's gone, we'll find him. Legs, you check
out the East Side. Louie, Rome and Budapest. Tell the boys
I want a total world search.
Legs+Louie: Right, boss.
Homer: [at a car dealer] I want a free car because I'm Krusty.
Krusty the Klown? Get it? Krus -- [honks horn] -- ty!
[honk]
[Tony's car skids to a halt]
Tony: Cancel the world search.
Homer: I want everything that's coming to Krusty the Klown. Which
is me, Krusty!
Louie: [behind a fence with a rifle] Hey! It's Krusty, all right.
Should I shoot him gangland-style or execution-style?
Tony: Listen to your heart.
Salesman: Well I can't _give_ you the car, Krusty, but I _can_ let you
have this little number for practically nothing: only
$38,000.
[bullets hit the car]
Homer: [suspicious] Hey, what are all these holes?
Salesman: [quickly] These are speed holes. They make the car go
faster.
Homer: Oh, yeah. Speed holes!
[bullets riddle the car and smash the windshield]
Salesman: You want my advice? I think you should buy this car.

I mean the bumper looks kind of dented.

IIRC he skids in one scene and glances off a pylon by the sidewalk, creating that rear damage. All in all, though, this car remains intact compared to other vehicles in the film.

I hate the fake computer-smoke-effects they used in this scene were the 450 SEL does a reversed-180. It spoils pretty much everything.

Wonder why they went back and added that really fake smoke? That reverse 180 maneuver would have looked just as good without it.

The position of the 6.9 boot badge changes - compare 5th of Neon's thumbs with /vehicle_15401-Ford-Fiesta-1984.html . I think the fiesta pic is correct, so more than one car used, with an ordinary 450 as well as a 6.9.

I`d say 404 or 480. Those two look very similar. Chances are higher it's 404, as 404 was available from the beginning of 6.9 production until including MY 1979, and 480 was introduced in 1979 and only available for one year until the 116 was discontinued mid-1980. So there's many more 404 out there than 480.

I had two of them. Both went around 235 km/h (according to the GPS and not the speedometer), and that was with 30+ years and over 250.000kms on them. Contemporary press road tests also always stated top speeds between 235 and 240. The factory rating of 225 was very conservative, typical of the brand at the time.
And MB officially licensed the Citroën hydropneumatic patents for use in the 116 and 126 cars.
They also developed it further on their own, introducing electronically controlled damping based on an accelerometer for the system that also automatically lowered the car above 120 km/h in 1986 with the mid-cycle refresh of the 126, predating what Citroën sold as "Hydractiv" years later. Albeit at a much higher price point and far lower production numbers - it was only available for the V8-engined models with long wheelbase at a very high extra cost of between 5000 and 6000 DEM depending on the model.
