Should get "*****" as this is the real attraction of the film. |

It is visible for so long time in the movie? I do not remember for this movie, but the newer Lotus in "For your eyes only" was not visible for a long time ![]() |

1977 Lotus Esprit. In "The Spy Who Loved Me", Bond uses it to run away from the villains leaded by Stromberg by diving into the ocean. The car can in fact be converted in a submarine and has a lot of gadgets such as torpedos, rockets, mines etc. At the box-office of the 007 cars, the 1977 submarine Esprit comes at the 2nd place, just behind the 1964 DB5. -- Last edit: 2005-11-28 14:14:13 |

Yes with that submarine version (and the derivated toy made by Corgi), this car really became famous to get 5 stars. I wonder why this one could not get 5 stars, where cars from Pimp My Ride or Monster Garage get 5 stars that they do not deserve, IMHO. -- Last edit: 2006-10-05 13:03:59 |

Yes, I was just teasing, I was thinking of the Porsche 'Little Bastard' in James Dean when I read the discussion. Maybe you should update all cars of the Pimp my ride/Monster garage antp, you have to power.. ![]() Btw. I have a Corgi (1/64) car of this vehicle, someone has painted it grey... -- Last edit: 2006-10-05 13:09:21 |

I still have two 1/43 Corgi/Dinky Toys DB5 bought late 60's early 70's in a average/pity state, and I think I still have one 1/43 white Esprit somewhere in an average state as well. -- Last edit: 2006-10-05 14:04:55 |

It had been some years since Bond got a gadget-laden car from Q-Branch, so this time he is given the Lotus Esprit. "Look what Q's brought for us. Isn't it nice?" ![]() Q: Right, now pay attention 007, I want you to take great care of this equipment. There are one or two rather special accessories... Bond: Q, have I ever let you down? Q: Frequently! ![]() The accessories include jet pipes which spray cement onto pursuing vehicles: ![]() "Can you swim?" ![]() And the most incredible of all, the car converts into a submarine! ![]() ![]() And it also features an arsenal of weapons; surface-to-air missles: ![]() Torpedos: ![]() Oil slick: ![]() And underwater mines: ![]() All of these help to see off Stromberg's underwater soldiers, but the submarine springs a leak and Bond takes it back onto dry land. -- Last edit: 2008-10-06 18:58:48 |

It appears about 1 hour into the film and is on screen for approximately 10 minutes (including the underwater scenes). A pretty famous and memorable car, if not quite as famous as the legendary Aston Martin DB5. |
