DynaMike ◊ 2009-06-19 12:03	This is a 1952 model (the 1953 had small wings on the sides of the headlight bezels). By the simple side trim it's not a Manhattan, but I couldn't find the diferences between Virginian and DeLuxe...
pilou ◊ 2009-06-19 13:30	1952 Kaiser DeLuxe 4-door sedan ( K-5211).The Virginian had the large size lower body rocker panels as on the Manhattan , a standard rear mounted spare and more luxurious interior appointments.

Originally, the Kaiser was planned to be a front wheel drive vehicle, and the early print ads in magazines proudly announced this. It didn't turn out to happen. The two cars were very close in design and execution, with the Frazer being more expensive, with noticeably more luxuriously appointed interiors. At first the magazine ads mentioned, in small print; "Kaiser...Product of Kaiser Frazer" and "Frazer...Product of Graham Paige."

Fid60 ◊ 2012-12-15 02:24	Just to clarify what a 1952 Kaiser Virginian is/was; Kaiser-Frazer had appoximately 5600 1951 Kaisers, and approximately 7000 1951 Henry Js that had not been sold by the end of the model year. To get dealers to take these cars, they modified them by changing the clear plastic trim on the hood ornments to black plastic and then hung a Continental spare tire on the back and called them 1952s! The Kaisers got left over 'Virginian' scripts from the left over 1949/50 Virginians and the Henry Js got 'Vagabond' scripts left over from the 1949/50 Kaiser Vagabonds. Pretty clever. Another post states "Virginian had the large size lower body rocker panels as on the Manhattan" - not true. The 1952 Virginians were 1951 Kaisers with said modifications and some were Deluxe models with the wide trim and some were Specials with the thin little trim. The script made no distinction as to whether or not the cars were a Virginian or Vagabond Deluxe or a Virginian/Vagabond standard (Special)models.

Commander 57 ◊ 2014-09-08 16:24	Belated comment. Fid60 isn't saying this is a Virginian, he was just discussing them. In fact, it definitely is not a Virginian, as they all had 2-piece windshields. Subject car appears to be a '52 (no wings on the headlamp rims) but notice the rear fender top chrome which was not used until 1953. Hood ornament style would have helped but it is missing. Appears to either be a '52 with the rear fender chrome added or a '53 with 1952 headlamp rims applied. Will leave as 1952 as first possible year. -- Last edit: 2014-09-08 16:26:51

Good observation but this car is actually a rare 1953 Kaiser Carolina. The '53 Carolina did not have the wide trim on the side or the fancy headlight trim (with wings) the other '53 models have. Lack of exterior trunk hinges also confirm it to be a '53 Carolina as all '52 Kaisers (Virginian, Deluxe, Manhattan) have external trunk hinges. Other indicator that it's a '53 is the speedometer pic with the black background - on a '52 those pieces are dull gray. -- Last edit: 2018-09-25 20:59:55
Commander 57 ◊ 2018-09-26 02:16	You could well be right, fid60. Interesting, though. The driver's side of this car carries Deluxe side trim while the passenger side appears to be trimless. Carolinas had no side trim while Deluxe models had the narrow trim shown. (Manhattans had the wide trim.) Will go ahead and change the listing to 1953 based on your very correct observation about the trunk lid hinges.

Likely whatever that trim is, it was added later. Not uncommon at the time.
Lateef ◊ 2023-07-19 13:48	This car turned up in a magazine I read today. It's a '53 De Luxe looking pretty much like it did more than 50 years ago. The difference in trim detail may be attributed to the fact that it's a European (possibly Haifa-assembled?) model. The car is currently exhibited at the EAC museum in Sørum, I haven't been there yet but now I'll definitely visit. In 1969 this car was owned by a man called Ivan Petersborg Hansen who willed the car to the museum after he passed in 2013. Registreringsnummer A-80071 / 27-37-44 Understells- / chassisnr. (VIN) H009065 <- could the H-prefix mean assembled in Israel (Haifa)? AFAIK US-assembled Kaisers were always issued a K-prefix.
