As Ddey65 and CaptOrbit I was also thinking in a Firesweep but, since I was in a doubt about it, i mailed to "The Ultimate 1957 DeSoto site" http://www.angelfire.com/de/petrus/ and this is the answer from Edward X. Petrus Technical Advisor for 1957 models for the National DeSoto Club: "That's a Firedome Sportsman 4-door hardtop. What is probably confusing is that it is a car without the usual "color sweep" or lower side different color. The one-color cars are not as desirable, but are rarer. The side moldings are different because of the lack of the lower color. It's a Sportsman because (as you noted) it is not pillared. You could get a Sportsman (not pillared) in either a 2 door or 4 door version. I can tell it's a Firedome because the Fireflite has a small emblem on the sides of each front fender, and this car does not have them. The Firesweep has a completely different front end because it's really a Dodge.". Thanks a lot to Mr. Petrus. |

1957 DeSoto Firedome Sportsman 4 door hardtop.It is not a Firesweep : the grille of the firesweep was different in that the headlights were not fully enclosed in a pod housing as here but only surrounded by an upper bright trim piece that also ran along the hoodline.This was because the Firesweep was based on the 122 inch Dodge chassis.On the Firesweep, the license plate was also not surrounded by the two bullet shaped overriders.What may be confusing here is that the car has the two upper front fender trims of the Firedome and Fireflite models but also the hood arrow of the Firesweep. |
