Cinema Vehicle Services actually produced 12 different "Eleanors" for use in the production of this film. None of the 12 were actual Shelby Mustangs but converted standard 1967 Mustang fastbacks and are thus just customized 67 Mustangs with very little optical resemblence to an actual 67 Shelby.
Wow, even I am confused now.

Of those cars, seven survived the filming in various states of repair. A 13th Eleanor, based on a real '67 Shelby GT500 was prepared by Cinema Vehicle Services for producer Jerry Bruckheimer, but
that car did not appear in the film.
The only true Shelby GT500 in the movie was given to Nicolas Cage's character by Giovanni Ribisi's character at the end of the movie. The real owner consented to the vehicle being used as long as it
was returned in the original condition. Every part that could be unbolted, was unbolted and replaced by
a junked replacement part for the scene.

i have shelby mustang, i got this car just recently, here's my story:

i originally got the mustang itself from a chop shop. it only costed $135 because the car didnt have a full engine block nor did it have a hood or doors, and it could definetly not drive. the guy i bought it from mumbled good luck fixin that piece of crap up and quietly laughed, i called my cousion to tell him to bring his dodge ram with a car trailer on the back, in about 25 minutes he came and we pushed it on the car trailer and drove back to the garage. And from there on me and my cousion been working on it, we started with the paintjob, then we looked all over the place for shelby mustang door's and hoods, but could not find any, but my step grandpa was nice enough to order me all the parts i needed to turn it into a nice car. after tweeking the engine to how i wanted it and finished working on all the exterior areas, the car turned out to be a beautiful masterpiece, it looked brand new. then after my step grandpa realized how much work and effort i put into the car, he asked me if i needed anything else for the car, and i said, well i dont exactly need this but i do want it, and he said, and whats that, i said, a eleanor bodykit. he eventually took the time to order me one and i put it on there myself. after the bodykit was placed on there and the engine was tweeked and modified a little bit, it was ready to go. i still do constant work on it and i work on it so much i barely get time to drive it, in fact, when im not on here on imcdb, im most likely working on the shelby mustang, this all just happened recently.

Your ability to read and comprehend really amaze me...or should I say about lack of this ability? There is actual facts about movie prop cars and your make believe BS about "Super Snake Eleanor" built by Shelby himself in 1967. I suppose that this actual facts hurts you very much, but...welcome back to reality.
Ok, here is your beloved Super Snake.
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0cc7_3_opt.jpg
Now tell me, how much external similarities this car body share with "Eleanor"? Beside basic shape, of course. I would tell you also, that some "Eleanor" styling clues clearly indicate that this design not came from late sixties, but it looks like you haven't any idea about car styling history.
Next thing: prop cars work as a props. To serve as background, to do camera works, to do stunts etc. None of this purposes require high-priced rare car, so they use disguised shells and lesser, cheaper, more common models. And CGI too.
Also, seems that you aren't aware, that putting plastic body kit on car isn't hard and expensive work. As well as replacing taillights. BTW, these taillights were also on High Country Special and California Special models, so what?
Now,can you show me some actual facts about your beliefs, something more than just "I believe!" and "There is no way!" screaming?

To moderators: Am I not very harsh?

This is a real '67 Shelby GT500.
[Image: richards-1967-ford-mustang-super-snake-elenaor-gt500-6.jpg]

The hood bump-thing is larger, it has a cobra on the grille, Shelby badges on the bump and GT500 on the doors, and the grille is slightly differeny. The Nicolas Cage-mobile up there has none of those.

If you're wondering why they made a fake Shelby, they couldn't afford to spend most of their budget on 12 real Shelbys just to destroy, and even if they had, no one would have sold theirs to them (the wrecked one at the end was a real Shelby GT390 that the owner demanded be returned in the same condition, so they unbolted everything that could be unbolted and replaced it with wrecked parts, then put the original parts back on to return it).

It actually is a real Shelby, though it did not start as one, so you all can stop arguing about this. Eleanor was designed for the film by none other than Chip Foose, and the cars were built by a company called Unique Performance. Foose was associated with UP at the time, and when Carroll Shelby heard about the car, he jumped on board with licensing as well. Shelby gave U.P. the rights to continue producing the cars after the movie, and thus all U.P. Eleanor cars are real shelbys and are in the Shelby registry. The cars, which consisted of normal '67-'68 fastbacks as well as real Shelby mustangs, were given new Shelby VIN numbers if they weren't Shelbys already. Now U.P was a shady company, and thats being overly polite. They basically robbed most of their customers, taking payment and never delivering a car. And this is why Shelby and Foose pulled out and shortly after, the U.P. garage was raided and the company went under. But, those few cars that were finished are real Shelby vehicles. The black Super Snake above is a U.P car, not the original. There was only one REAL '67 Super Snake, and this is it:
