Uh huh, and what a shame, but I still believe this as the best candidate for most vicious car ever featured in a movie, right next to the primer-grey '55 Chevrolet from Two-Lane Blacktop. -- Last edit: 2006-04-01 20:10:57 |

'68 Chargers had round taillights. '70s had the flat horizontal taillights like the '69s. |

It's a fake blower, but one of the cars used (for the race scene I think) had a 440 cid 4 barrel under the hood. |

they'd never risk wrecking a real HEMI, the engine was a 383 4-barrel with a fake blower but the enigne in the garage scene WAS a real 426 Hemi |

|
◊ 2006-11-08 07:16 |
its not a charger 500 grille, he just has the hidaway headlights open. |

the hemi charger in the garage and the hemi charger at the beginning of the last race are the same car.the charger that was wrecked had a 383 with a fake blower on it.the wheel stand is real.the guy that owns the hemi charger taught Vinnie how to do the wheel stand. |

Ummm, the wheelstand is a fake. Watch the extras on the "extended" DVD. They used a hydraulic ram with wheels mounted on the bottom of the car to raise the front end. There are three noticeable errors during that race scene: the sound of the engine revving up doesn't correspond with the movement of the blower's "butterflies", the blower belt doesn't move the entire time the car is sitting at the light running, and there is absolutely no possible way to pull a wheelie like that with those skinny @$$ tires on the back. Also, has anyone else noticed that, for a 9 second car, that race scene takes forever. I know, I know, dramatic effect or whatnot... |

Oh, and the grille is the stock 1970 grille, but it's been blacked out (no chrome trim), and the "hideaway" headlight doors are open. On the 1969 Charger 500 grille, the headlights are fixed in place with a Coronet-like grille. |

It is a 1969/1970 Charger. My book shows that 1968s were used as pilot cars with 1969 and 1970 doubles. |
|
◊ 2007-07-23 23:48 |
It is definately a 1970 Charger, the 1969 had a vertical bar that divides the grille in two halves. |

I aggree, I was just saying that to someone the other day while watching a movie |

It was the only good car in the whole film. Overall, the film was shit anyway. |

I wonder what happened to the Chargers they used in the movie? I'd guess they are all either on some sort of movie-car attraction display or crushed. I'd be curious to hear if any are currently under private ownership. I also can't believe I haven't come across a clone of this car anywhere on the internet. There are thousands of General Lees out there, but no-one has bothered to clone such a wicked looking car? Fast and the Furious may not have the same following (specifically, age-wise) as The Dukes of Hazzard, but it boggles my mind no-one has bothered with the FnF Charger! I've seen a couple black '70 Chargers with a blower, but no American Racing CL-200 "Daisy's" or Enderle-style air scoops. |

the way they built up that car in the movie was enough to make it appear a beast...it was enough to bring this poor Dodge girl to tears when he spoke of the horsepower. Also being this is my dream car, and was long before the movie came out. But we all know they would never wreck a true 426 R/T Charger. As for where they keep the extra cars, I know the Autorama has one, I've got pics of it somewhere. Best car in this crappy movie...the only reason I ever saw it. |

BEST CAR IN THE WHOLE MOVIE!!!!! |
|
◊ 2008-11-09 22:07 |
The tail panel clearly tells the car is a 1969 model wearing a 1970 front clip. The car should be reclassified as a modified 1969. |

ok i have a couple of things... first the garage scene, it looks like a HEMI except the distributor is missing from the front right of the engine. all chrysler big blocks had it mounted on the front right side, clearly in the photo the plug wires run to the back of the engine. someone on here stated it was an engine from a boat? that could be as they tend to run the blowers on the engine backwards, and the movie guys didnt feel it was necessary to turn it all around. Second, the wheelie scene. in order to get the car, any car to wheelie you must get traction. in the movie you will clearly see that the charger smokes the rear tires while leaving the line. spinning tires make it virtually impossible to pull a wheelie. Lastly, the smoke from the tires is not tire smoke. any of you that have done a burnout knows that tire smoke doesn't dissipate that quickly. If I'm wrong on these points, please let me know. |

69 and 70 tail light panels were the same only the tail light trim was different, the 69 tail light trim went around the taillights and around the whole tail light panel and the 70 only had the trim around the taillights but the trim connected each taillight on the 70.since they used 3 70s for this movie they left the trim off cause 1 only had it,they actual car that was flip is owned by a company is ca and still sits there today but can be seen online they rent out cars for movies and its not the volvo musuem they only have the ones from the new fast and furious movie.the frontend howver was fully changed in 70 you can not use any 69 front fornt son a 70 without changing the whole front clip, the front end on this 70 is stock they only had the headlight doors open thats it!!you can also contact travis bell at the general lee fan club he has all the info on this 70 charger with pics of where it resides |

|
◊ 2009-11-10 22:30 |
It was actually a 528 HEMI not a 426 like everyone is saying. |
|
◊ 2009-11-19 01:20 |
some people dont have a lick of since.the 3 chargers used where 70 chargers not 68s not 69s,the 68s have diff fenders-grill and tail light panel, the 69s had same fenders as 68 just differnt marker holes and had diff tail light panel, the 70 as used is similiar to the 69 cause of the tail light panel and has a whole differnt front clip.the one in his garage did sport a 528 hemi crate motor(not used in flipped charger.the 70 that flipped was also used in herbie reloaded in the junkyard seen where lindsey lohan gets inside and pretends to drive it and was also used in newest fast and furious in garage seen with no front clip and new roof and it owned by a california movie company that rents cars to movies.they used a hydrolic setup for the race and the headlight doors were put open so you couldnt see the words "charger" on the grill but like no one would know lol |
