A circa 1964 Mk 2 and a 'modern' S type of about 2007. The original S type effectively of 1965 had the same body shell up to the rear quarters, behind which was a nicely styled extended boot (resembling that of the MK 10). Unfortunately the car then became rather tail heavy- and heavy overall, too! My fathers 3.8liter S type was slower and much less fun to drive than the 3.liter Mk 2 it replaced. Worst feature of the Mk 2 was its moss gearbox- heavy, slow and with rather poor synchromesh. The S type automatic had a column shift control and wasn't that cars best feature, either, but the car had a geat deal of torque. For both models, the great XJ engine was the best feature. -- Last edit: 2010-03-25 14:36:13 |

Looks like all red grille badge = 3.4, and the plate might be a clue. No idea why 1964 as above, but why not?? |
