The new main picture that shows a brown car with full wheelcovers shows a 1973 Century. The brown car with small wheelcovers isn't the same, it is a 1974 Century 455 (shown in most episodes) and the blue car is a 1974 Century too. Later in the series, the brown Century was replaced by a 1975 (copper color). |

Since they are 3 different cars and two of them are from 1974, shouldn't they be listed separately? And the brown 1973 Century doesn't have the 455 badges, it's the brown 1974 that does. -- Last edit: 2007-02-25 02:25:36 |

So is this a 73' or 74' ? |
◊ 2007-04-15 02:35 |
This one isn't the same. It's 1973 Century, the one currently in the main picture is a 1974 Century 455 (same car as I posted before). |

From the rear, the 1973 and 1974 models are very easy to differenciate. The 1973 Century has it's licence plate in the bumper while the 1974 has it between the taillights. The taillights, trunk door and bumper design also differs. At the front, the differences are more subtle. The optional bumper guards were relocated (but these cars don't have them) and the 1973 grille (section above the bumper)has 3 horizontal bars while the 1974 has 5 horizontal bars and more visible vertical dividers. The "BUICK" letters above the grille are closer to each other on the 1973 and they are more widely spaced on the 1974 (B U I C K). The 1975 Century has taillights that are similar to those of the 1974, the main diffeence is in the front (taller grille with BUICK lettering in it rather than above it and rectangular parking lights instead of round ones). In 1976-77, the coupe model was redesigned but the sedan and wagon continued on the 1973-75 body with a slightly different grille and quad rectangular headlights. |

What's cool on these is that the turn signals have the Buick shield engraved into the lenses. |

Hah, this reminds me of one of Benny Hill's Kojak bits (he had three, one of which was "O'Jack", an Irish detective...). But in the straight spoof of Kojak, and Benny (as Kojak) asks a cop in the precinct, "Clancy, did you check my tires?", to which the response is, "Yeah, you still have four." New York was that bad, sadly, during the 1970s especially, but thank goodness it improved significantly! After a while, the mugging jokes got irritating in film and TV. |
