Regal?

Yes, although I think it's the sport version called "Grand National". This was the fastest production car of the 1980s, it could go 0-60 in under 6 seconds!

Is there anyway to tell if it's a real one or fake? It's just like with the show "Life" and trying to figure out if it's a real one or not: /vehicle_133538-Buick-Regal-1987.html

That's right. The Buick Regal Grand National. They made those between 1982 and 1987, ending them with the GN-X.

No GN or GNX had a V8

This one isn't original. It's a 1984-86 GN with 1987 GNX "portholes" added. But it's not a 1982.

I just saw the movie last night, April 2nd, at an advanced screening and yes, it is a real grand national. It has a V8 sound in the trailer but in the movie it is a turbo charged 3.8 liter V6. The sound is unmistakable.

I saw the show on saturday 4/11 and they really didn't beat it up all that bad. The damage was mostly cosmetic.

Yeah, they're all just plain Grand Nationals. The real question is, though, were they REALLY Grand Nationals, or just Regals with the trim painted?

volovo online museum owns them now whats left of them, none of them were real v6 turbo cars all clones, all were built by year one for the movie, they even had one they took the body off and placed it on backwards for the reverse driving seen with astunt driver check out hot rod mag for all the info.u couldnt get a plain grand national or gnx without the turbo v6,regular regals had turd v6s and plain v8s

I forget the title of the article, but on insideline.com, like others have said, there were multiple versions of this car used in filming. Some had souped up V8's so maybe they just didn't mask the sound. They also made a one with a V8 that had the body mounted backwards to give the illusion of it driving real fast in reverse.

I hope they didn't total this car as it is my all-time favorite. They only made around 30,000 so they're rare enough.

I don't know why they insist on calling them "GNXs." They're Grand Nationals. The GNX was a limited production version only offered in 1987...and this car isn't one of those. It has GNX-style fender vents, but those are popular add-ons for regular Grand Nationals.

Do you know, what kind of shifting gear does this car have? Because it doesn't seem like a normal "up-down-up-down-up" style.

That's because all GNXs and Grand Nationals have 4-Speed Automatic Gearboxes.

The sound engineers messed up on this one. It has the unmistakable sound of a gm 350, but every GN had a turbo V6.

Craig Lieberman recently did a video on these cars.

Apparently about 11 were used in the production, and surprisingly all were real Grand Nationals (various years from 1981 to 1987), with no regular Regals mixed in. All but one of the stunt cars and the 1981 "filming buck" had turbo V6s (the buck, of course, had no engine, and one of the stunt cars had an NA V8 installed for sharper throttle response for a specific stunt).

1st Grand National are mentionned in the 1984 brochure, i doubt they had 1981-1983 ones.. ( but a V6 turbo was available on Sport/T-Type models )

Skid US

2020-08-23 18:23

His paperwork, shown the video, lists the year of the filming buck as '81.

The first year for the GN was apparently 1982, though, so suppose that one had to have been a regular Regal.

looks like you're right.. but apperently they were all having that silver paint on the side .. and were even available with the base engine..
according to wiki, no 1983 GN before the return as the one we mostly know for 1984
