Driven by Walter Matthau's character throughout the beginning of the movie in Manhattan and Queens. I even recognized the old version of the Long Island Expressway-Cross Island Parkway interchange. Probably three stars. |

Car is used a lot, especially in the first part of the movie. Would say 4 stars. If I'm not completely wrong, they used V8 sound for the Ferrari in the movie! -- Last edit: 2010-03-25 14:15:40 |

Matthau never fails to drive it through New York traffic without a racing helmet. Film opens with men in white coats and operating room equipment: "She'll be alright now, Mr Graham." "Thank you." "You ever have any trouble with it before, Mr Graham?" "Well, I have to take it in two or three times a week, which is somewhat inconvenient, but the car is well worth it." "Two or three times a week? And how often do you drive it?" "Two or three times a week. I have to take it in every time I drive it. Then it usually needs a tune-up every few weeks, so I actually don't get to drive it very much." (...) "...then he told me that there was carbon on the valves, which was no news to me because there's always carbon on the valves. My own mechanic picked up the car yesterday and returned this afternoon with the news that there was carbon on the valves. I asked him why the car broke down so frequently, and he said it was probably because carbon got on the valves." "Haha. I told you Ferrari was useless in the city. Buy a Bentley and stop carrying on." "How dare you." |

Not only was it towed by that late-1960's Chevy C-Series tow truck, but this Chevy C-30 Stepside that was converted into a tow truck: /vehicle_907548-Chevrolet-C-30-1961.html |

You are correct a US V8, at least when we first hear it start-up and go in the 'operation' scene. No idea why they did that but in one later scene I think we hear the V12 -- Last edit: 2022-05-20 02:46:03 |

It's ages since I last heard Atomic Rooster - good to know that somewhere in deepest Germany there's still a following. Here's some more Beggars Opera for dessert. And for some cheese and biscuits afterwards. |

Page reconfigured after various to-and-froing about the 2 red GTBs in the film After merging pages, they're now being de-merged, with this page for the plain GTB without bulge. New main as supplied by 993cc |

@dsl: Thanks for the music (although I could have done without MacArthur Park; even Beggar's Opera could not save this weepy slushy song), but to pay respect to the truth I have to admit that I actually know just these two songs of Atomic Rooster. |
