I had always assumed that was a '67. I had a '67 GTO converible which was the same factory blue color, but with white interior. Easiest way to tell from a '66 is the tail lights have different trim.. |

This GTO went on to be modified by Dean Jeffreys into the Monkeemobile. |

Yes, I read that recently. According to wikipedia, two Monkeemobiles were made with a TV car and a promotions car. The promotional Monkeemobile was the IDOJ car, but appeared in the second season of the show alongside the primary film car. That being said, tv_boy astutely observed that there may have been two IDOJ '67 GTOs as Major Nelson's car has mags or dog dish hubcaps depending on the scene. Although with the attraction of Barbara Eden, Larry Hagman, and recurring guest role Pontiacs, I thought that the '67 GTO more often as I always associate it as THE Major Nelson car. I am actually surprised that the car must not appear all that much as there really aren't lots of screencaptures. As the car really did not have all that much screen time, it probably was not required for many days of filming. And most of the time it is stock footage of Major Nelson in the '66 swinging through the curved drive in front of NASA HQ, which I think was still used when he had "moved up" to a Bonneville. LOL, as much as I love the Bonneville, unquestionably, I see young bachelor Major Nelson as a GTO or Firebird man. |
