It's a real 23-window Samba-bus (more windows than the normal Bus, and the typical large chrome strip dividing the colours and protecting the bumpers), introduced in June 1951, but in the version shown here it's from March 1955 or later (new front end of the roof). Samba was part of the official name. Chassis code [241]. |

[Typ 2] is the code for all VW buses and transporters. But it can be precised as [21] for vans, [22] for 9-seat buses, [23] for Kombis, [24] (and [25]) for Samba-buses, [26] for pick-ups, [27] for ambulances and [28] for 7-seat buses. And these codes can be precised as [211] = van with doors right and steering wheel left, [213] = van with doors left and steering wheel left, [214] = van with doors left and steering wheel right, [215] = van with doors left and right, steering wheel left, [216] = van with doors left and right, steering wheel right, etc. In this series of codes, the 9-seat Samba-bus with doors right and steering wheel left is [241]. You can find the whole series of codes for buses/vans in "De Kever - De VW in Nederland" by Jan de Lange (Elmar, Rijswijk, 1995). |

That is correct, but quite a while back, before you joined, we discussed the problem -- at that time about Typ 3. We decided to keep it simple so that groups of basically similar vehicles are kept together. For the time being I would keep it like that. Perhaps in the future we have a technical solution to use detailed numbers without loosing the search results when looking for Typ 2. The early Volkswagen, or KdF-Wagen, used different numbers all together. Well known are Typ 30, Typ 60, Typ 82, Typ 166 ... and of course Typ 356! .gif ";)") |

Typ 3 is splitted in 31/36 though. I should reorganize Typ 2 to not include the "Tx" in it but just use the "mk" field in it, and remove "Typ 2" from T4 and newer, as they are not really Typ 2 anymore. cf http://forum.imcdb.org/forum_topic-713-Precision_for_some_VW__Typ_.html There are also some mistakes in Typ 1 codes, as later models got other numbers, same for convertible Golfs, but for keeping things easier and ordered in the list, I suppose that we can accept these small mistakes. -- Last edit: 2007-05-10 23:06:08 |

This is a one star vehicle. Although it's implied that it perhaps belongs to the gypsies who keep playing music for Finnigan, this is the only time we ever see this bus. It's parked and no one ever gets in or out. |
