the second vehicle?..its an M422A1 AMC Mighty Mite 4x4 quarter ton truck, an extremely rare vehicle built for use exclusively by the US Marine Corps.
Production only ran to 3,922 vehicles from 1960-1962.

Correct on the Mighty Mite. The third vehicle is a Dodge WC52.

no prob..the short wheelbase of the vehicle means it can still be driven on 3 wheels..should one be off for some reason
Intended as a light vehicle which could be carried by the USMC helicopters of the period, it could be slung under any helicopter then in use by the USMC..unlike the Jeep.
It was built by Mid American Research Corporation at Wheatland, Pennsylvania, with a Porsche flat four engine.
each vehicle, when new, cost $5,200 US Dollars to make..three variations were built, differing only in that some variants have no spare tyre/tool box..some variants will have a tool box and spare tyre..some variants will have a windshield and spare tyre from the M38 Jeep..al vehicles had permanent 4 wheel drive and an alluminium body..and weighed 100 pounds more that a WW2 german Kubelwagen..even though the Kubel is a bigger vehicle!
expense and lack of spares killed the vehicle off from the USMC, the last being sold into the civillian market in the 1970s..most were bought by film companies to use as "Jeeps", and thats where you will see most of them..in the movies.
As for preservation, theres only a few in the USA, with i think 1 example in the UK..the lack of their survival is probably down to that when most people who bought them when surplussed looked on them as a handy small truck..they didnt know what they had..or how rare they were.
